Tick, Tick, Tick…

Tick, tick, tick goes the timer God set into action the day you were born and took your first breath. If each day represents a tick on your timer, then probably your timer has ticked quite a few ticks. As of February 8, 2021, my timer has ticked 19,424 times. When my timer goes “Ding” then my life has ended. Only God knows when I will “Ding” and only what I have done for the Lord will last.

When God started your timer and you were born, he created you for him. Yes, you were created for his enjoyment.

Colossians 1:16 “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him.”

Have you ever enjoyed making a gift or taking time to purchase a special gift for someone else? I think we all have done this. Then the day comes, and you had to give the gift away. You enjoyed giving such a special gift but at the same time you were saddened by losing the gift you spent so much time making or finding. This is how God must have felt when he created each one of us. He took special care in our creation; but then, of course we were born into whatever family God placed us in. Let’s pretend our timers started ticking the moment we took our first breath.

God created each of us because we all have a life that is worth living. Ever just think “What am I doing here? Why me Lord? Why? My life doesn’t matter so why create me?” The verse above tells us why, “all things were created by him, and for him. We all were created for his enjoyment. Just as we create a gift for someone special. He created us, as his special gift to himself. Each moment he looks at us, he is getting enjoyment from our lives. Maybe God is disappointment, but that is another blog post for another time. If we are disappointing our Creator, then visit I John 1:9 and get things right in your life.

For this post, let us focus on the fact that we keep sin confessed and we are sincerely trying each day to do what is right for the Lord. However, we are human, and at times, we still just wonder things like, “Why Lord? Why am I going through this tragedy? Why am I going through this difficulty? Why me Lord? My life doesn’t seem worth living. No one will care when I’m gone. I’ve had no positive impact anywhere for you, Lord. Why?”

The answer for “Why Lord?” We were created “for him.” Yes, we were not only created but we are going through the things we go through “for him.” Our life is worth living, because the reason for everything we go through is “for him.”

Let’s retrain our thinking. Instead of wondering “Why Lord?” When we wonder “Why Lord” let’s answer, “Because I was created for your pleasure, Lord. You have me going through specific things for you, Lord.”

Below are just a few things the Lord loves that may not seem important to us, but they are important to him. Since we were created “for him” as a special gift to himself, What are some things we can do to make him pleased with us?

  • He loves it when we are steadfast, unmovable regardless of what difficulties we are going through in life.

I Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

  • He loves it when we allow him to live through us regardless of our various situations in life.

Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

  • He loves it when we live a life, that when he returns, we will not be ashamed.

Philippians 1:20-21 “According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

  • And most of all, he loves it when we win souls. Even if it is just one in our lifetime, that is the ultimate reason he created us. He wants as many people in heaven with him for all eternity.

Proverbs 11:30 “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.”

There are so many things he loves about us – his special gift to himself. He loves it when he sees us reading our Bibles, he loves seeing us sitting in church or listening to church services on the internet, he loves it when we encourage/exhort others, he loves to see us passing out tracts, he loves to see us helping others, he loves hearing our prayers for others, and the list could go on and on of things God loves seeing his gift do.

So, we have a life worth living. We were not created as some gifts are – to sit on a shelf – but we were created to be seen and shown off by our Lord. Let our lights so shine in this wicked world. We have a life worth living and a life worth showing off for the Lord.

Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

So, in a simple summary, let’s retrain our thinking. Instead of wondering “Why Lord?” When we wonder “Why Lord” let’s answer, “Because I was created for you, Lord! I am going through this for you, Lord.”

Colossians 1:6 “…all things were created by him, and for him.”

Kimberly Howell

I was born in 1967 and I have been living in sunny Whakatane, New Zealand since Christmas 2010. My husband pastors a church and it has been a delight living in New Zealand. We both are originally from Maryland, USA. I have been amazed at the beautiful landscapes and stunning wildlife, especially the birds in New Zealand. Many of the native birds visit our modest yard on a daily basis. I was blessed at one time to have several aviaries with finches. In 2021, I had surgery to remove my appendix which was filled with cancer and then breast cancer surgery and radiation. It was an interesting year. Prior to my surgeries, my husband had two back surgeries. I'm glad God knows best even if I do not understand all he is doing. In 2022, for 6 months, I traveled to the US to put my youngest daughter into college in Arizona. People I met, during this trip, spiritually lifted me up in ways they will never understand. I'm glad God is in control of everything. Resting, gardening, and reading my Bible are cherished pastimes. It gets my mind off everything. We all need those places we can go and get our minds off everything. A place that is encouraging and comforting and at the same time give a little pricking of the heart to keep us trying our best to serve the Lord. I hope this Blog will be such a place for you. A place to find encouragement and comfort along with a few smiles.
