They can sing beautifully, instruct, coordinate, organize, fellowship, travel, visit the needy, and go and go. However, I am not one of these people. I have always had a burning desire to be one of these multi-talented and multi-tasking people; but God did not give me those marvelous talents. Recently, I have had to come to grips with the fact that I will never be one of those lovely, multi-talented people. I am just me. God made me with the few little things that I can do about the house and church. I am not fancy. I am just plan, simple me. I cannot sing beautifully, teach multitudes of children, work a full-time job (outside the house), organize great church functions and fellowships, plan big events, and go and go. But you know what? That is okay. God made me how I am. He knew all I would experience in life and all I would go through. If the best I can do each day, is make it through each day with God’s help, then that is okay. That is how he made me and I will sing my “one note” each day and be thankful for the little talents God has bestowed upon me.

Silvereye

Yesterday, I meandered slowly outside and a Silvereye bird was singing his “one note.” Silvereyes are small, round, greenish birds with a white ring around the eyes. This tiny bird was perched ever so high in a cheery tree. With his chest out and head held high, he sang repeatedly his “one note.” He did not seem to care that he could not sing like the Tui bird, the Mockingbird, or other birds that can sing whole choruses of songs and tunes. He was extremely content singing his “one note” for the whole world to see and hear. He was proud of the “one note” that God gave him to sing. Someone may ask, “What makes him so special?” The answer, “He is the only bird that sings this “one note.”” No other bird sings this special note – just him! God gave him one special talent and he was doing it well and quite successfully to the honor and glory of our Heavenly Father.

God was showing me a simple fact. My thought was this, “I may just be simple me and I may be only able do a few things, but no one else does them-just me! The people I talk to, the people I impact, the people I help, and the things I do‑no one else does them.” Also, I love the fact that since God has not given me many talents, then I am not responsible for many talents. I would like to say, “Praise the Lord” to that fact. Now as I age and my energy is dropping and health issues arising, there is a peace of mind knowing I am not responsible for the talents I do not have. I am only responsible for the few things God has given me to do. With his help, I will do them the best I can like the small Silvereye Bird who sang his “one note” to his best ability.

Tui

Luke 12:48 “For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.”

Some people may feel they cannot do much for the Lord. For whatever reason, many people feel worthless. They feel since they cannot accomplish great and might things, they might as well not even try.

Let me give just a few examples of people that I believe are accomplishing great and might things. Remember this is just a short list. There are many people with their “one talent” that could be listed here, but to keep this short, I will only list three.

First, there are many senior ladies I have known over the years that have health issues and cannot often make it to church; but when I have seen them, they say “I’m praying for you.” Wow! Their dedication to prayer is commendable! What great prayer warriors. My response, “Keep on praying ladies. We need more of you.”

Second, there are people that come each week and quietly clean the church building. They are never seen, but the staff and all the church members reap the benefits of their secret, weekly appearances. I would like to say, “Thank you to those people who clean. Our churches would be a mess without you. Keep cleaning.”

Third, but not last, is one delightful senior lady with early stages of Alzheimer’s. Every time she enters the church, she enters with a smile and usually says something like, “God is so good. What a wonderful day God has given us. Our God is a magnificent God.” This lady is so encouraging and uplifting to be around. She is a role model for me to smile more and praise the Lord more often. She definitely has the talent of encouragement and she does it well.

Do not hide any talent. No matter how small we may think our talent is, God wants us to use it.

Matthew 25:25-26 “And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant…”

No matter how small we may think our talent is, don’t be “slothful.” Get going. Pray, clean, teach, encourage, etc. Whatever the talent is that God has given, use it!

In summary, many of us are not multi-talented and multi-tasking people, but God has given each of us a marvelous talent or two. He has given each of us “one note” to sing. Let us all sing our notes (our talents) well and watch how magnificent God pulls our choruses together in our families and at our churches.

I Corinthians 10:31 “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”

Sing our “one note” and do our one talent “all to the glory of God.”

Some people have such amazing talent.
