High up on the rocks, so tall the lighthouse stood;
Facing north and south, the glass was set in wood.
Like an arrow pointing to the sky, all shiny and brand new;
Windows east and windows west, viewing waves and oceans so blue.
At last, the final piece was put in place to make the lighthouse whole;
Its light, its heart keeps man alive and well, its very depth – its soul.
Golden sun, sand, seagulls, and calm ocean waves;
Shining the light and keeping men from their graves.
Infinitely alive, the completed lighthouse stood so proud;
The constant salt spray against its painted boards the ocean raves.
Night after night, lighting the channel through the eerie pitch-black hole;
Its light, its heart keeps man alive and well, its very depth – its soul.
Many a day and night, thunderstorms prevailed;
Varied trials, storms, the lighthouse never failed.
Thousands of suns, moons and plenty of swells and tides very high;
Seasons came, went, uncountable months and years, and waves crashed by.
Weathered, broken boards, fixed leaks, squeaks; never failing to light the rocky shoal;
Its light, its heart keeps man alive and well, its very depth – its soul.
Ages had gone by, changing clouds passed and went;
Iron tools taking down boards so warped and bent.
One day, men with new noises, saws, hammers, all windows cut out;
Spread across the shore, lighthouse boards and windows were all about.
A tall, modern, steel lighthouse now seen on the daily coastal stroll;
Its light, its heart keeps man alive and well, its very depth – its soul.
Feeling outdated, no longer of service;
All people shouted, “You helped to preserve us!”
A memorial under a blue curtain. Off went the sheet!
The lighthouse’s soul illumined the town square and felt complete.
Shinning down main street and resting in peace was the lighthouse of ole;
It’s light, its heart kept man alive and well, its very depth – its soul.

Down, kneeling before the Lord, man’s soul poured out;
A new Christian born; angels shouted about!
The man cried, “Save me from hell’s torment. I want life eternal!”
Now joyful, burdens cast out, a soul filled with peace internal.
God’s grace, mercy, living faith, learning to let God have all control;
God’s light, his Word keeps man alive and well, man’s very depth – man’s soul.
Daily reading God’s Word, growing in the Lord;
Finding out not all men are of one accord.
Talking heaven with people, the glories of eternal life;
Many men have uncertainties, troubles, and much daily strife.
People here, people there, no Godly concern just a worldly goal;
God’s light, his Word keeps man alive and well, man’s very depth – man’s soul.
Going to church, praying, trying to live right;
Oh! What a constant spiritual, daily fight.
Satan’s intense fiery darts, temptations here, there, everywhere;
Fighting “spiritual wickedness,” without the Lord could not bear.
Witnessing and “fishers of men,” the Christian must steadily troll;
God’s light, his Word keeps man alive and well, man’s very depth – man’s soul.
Many testings, temptations, and hard trials;
Grey hair, “Mirror? Who is this?” gone many miles.
Doctor, bank appointments, shopping, computer issues, oh my;
Medicines, surgeries, barely strength each day to utter “Hi.”
Friends at bedside, God’s comforting peace, soon into heaven will stroll;
God’s light, his Word keeps man alive and well, man’s very depth – man’s soul.
In my heavenly mansion I do live on;
Every day’s so great, life’s problems now are gone!
Being “steadfast, unmoveable,” my labour was “not in vain.”
Unbeknownst lives I touched, joyful reunions on golden lane.
Basking in the Son and enjoying family, friends and saints of ole;
God’s light, his Word kept me alive and well, my very depth – my soul.
