I wish I were a bird.
Never speaking a word.
Singing songs to be heard.
Hearts of souls would be stirred.
Puffing my feathers up so high.
Tilting my head to the blue sky.
The bright sun shining in my eye.
Opening up my wings to fly.
Up, up with the boisterous wind!
Up and down, my feathered wings bend.
Greens, blues, teals – all colors would blend.
To clouds and sky there is no end!
Sparrows and finches, oh my!
Hawks and eagles are not shy.
Puffins almost seem to cry.
Black and white is the magpie.
Swimming by goes the goldeneye.
With long legs, cranes do lift to fly.
Kiwis do not let worms go by.
Listen – a morepork is nearby.
A grandiose question, which to be?
To be a bird footloose and carefree,
Not for me to just sit in a tree.
My life wants a constant flying spree.
To enjoy the wind in my feathered wings,
And air in my face a pleasure it brings.
Not to have a care about worldly things.
Only savouring what creation rings.
Thank you, Lord, for the glorious birds to adore.
Enjoying your creation makes me want to soar!
Arriving at the gate, I for thee will ask for.
I long to meet on that delightful, golden shore.
A human I am and a bird I shall never be,
But salvation in my heart has set my spirit free!
At some time, my frail, weakened body shall fly to thee.
In thy loving and caring arms, I shall ever be.
