One day while reading Proverbs 31, the following verse jumped out:<\/p>\n
Proverbs 31:26 \u201cShe openeth her mouth with wisdom, and in her tongue is the law of kindness.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n Ever meet someone who does not shut up? Most of us probably have. These people (which we will call the \u201ctalkers\u201d) can be a bit annoying and sometime even intimidating. These \u201ctalkers\u201d talk about everything and sometimes they even talk about Biblical areas they are accomplished in and leave other people around them to feel as if they are unskilled, unknowledgeable, and sometimes even sinful. These \u201ctalkers\u201d tend to lift themselves up much before the eyes of men.<\/p>\n Let\u2019s study this verse.<\/p>\n Proverbs 31:26 \u201cShe openeth her mouth with wisdom, and in her tongue is the law of kindness.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n 1. She \u201copeneth her mouth\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/span> If a person is to be obedient to God\u2019s word, then a person has to shut their mouth sometimes. How can a mouth be opened with wisdom if it is never shut?\u201d Short Summary: So, ladies, do not fret anymore when in the presence of one of those non-stop \u201ctalkers.\u201d No matter what they talk about, do not let them make you feel smaller than a flee. While these \u201ctalkers\u201d are talking, we listeners can be thinking on the things above in Philippians 4:8 and when given the chance – we listeners – can make sure we speak with \u201cwisdom\u201d<\/em><\/span> and \u201ckindness.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n P.S. For my friends who we’ve just had lovely times talking non-stop because that is just how we are with each other – this has nothing to do with those special moments. I have whole-heartedly enjoyed fellowship with friends at times and we’ve laughed and talked so much and I’ve gone away from those special times cherishing those moments or hours together.<\/p>\n This was a post mostly to help those of us who walk away from a conversation feeling worthless because of the content of someone else’s non-stop chatter.\u00a0 This post is to help us in those situations to feel better, not to feel like a worthless nobody because of what others say and that there are things we can think and learn and do, so when we do talk we can talk with the wisdom God would want us all to talk about.<\/p>\n For example – I’ll quickly give a true example from my life. Many, years ago, I went to a ladies meeting for two days. Most of the ladies were wonderful to be around but there was one that talked non-stopped and said things on purpose to make me feel bad. Her conversation was riddled with topics for 48 hours that were directly pointed at me to embarrass me and my family. I just had to determine this specific lady was not going to ruin my weekend. I was going to focus on the other friendly ladies and when given the chance, I would not lash back at this one person, but I would learn from the other ladies, and I would speak with Godly wisdom when given the chance. \n2. Also, since the mouth should be shut sometimes, when it does open, it should open with \u201cwisdom\u201d<\/em> and with \u201ckindness.\u201d<\/em>
\na. Philippians 4:8 \u201cFinally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.\u201d<\/em><\/span>
\nb. If a \u201ctalker\u201d desires to be obedient to God, they need to close their mouth and think on the things above in Philippians 4:8. A person cannot think much when they are talking. A person needs to close their mouth to think. So, with the mouth closed, a person can think on honest, just, pure, lovely, good, virtuous, and praising things. Then, when a mouth is opened \u2013 it can be opened with wisdom and kindness.
\n3. Not only can \u201ctalkers\u201d not think much when their mouth is open \u2013 they cannot learn anything either. Philippians 4:9 \u201cThose things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.\u201d<\/em><\/span> I have heard it said by many preachers, \u201cGod gave us one mouth but two ears. We need to hear twice as much as we talk.\u201d With a mouth constantly talking, the \u201ctalker\u201d cannot think on the correct things, they cannot learn the correct things; and they cannot \u201cdo\u201d the things God wants them to do in their life.<\/p>\n
\n\u2022 The mouth has to be closed so it can open to speak with “wisdom.”<\/em><\/span>
\n\u2022 While the mouth is closed – think on the things in Philippians 4:8 \u2013 learn from God\u2019s Word and \u2013 do his commandments as in Philippians 4:9.<\/p>\n
